Bazhandao - Antika sydkinesiska svärd

Vad kan man då läsa om dessa sydkinesiska svärd?

Hudiedao are also often referred to as bazhandao ("eight cutting knives", referring to their movement) and associated with the southern Chinese Wing Chun fighting system. This is probably only because it is one of the few systems left that still incorporates training with these weapons.

A pair with the name of a security company inscribed in the blades seems to suggest they were, among others, used by security guards. Late Qing drawings and photographs sometimes show rebels, militia and even the occasional Green Standard Army soldier carrying a single hudiedao tucked under their belt or sash instead of a pair. It is unlikely that they were issued to them, rather it seems these men often just took what was available.
